Too many sigmoidoscopies?

My GI has just scheduled me for another sigmoidoscopy. I had one on March 23rd which indicated active Crohn's. I started Prednisone and after 3 weeks I was bleeding more, not less. I went into hospital on April 15th and had a sigmoidoscopy on the 16th and a colonoscopy on the 17th, and was having a severe flare up at that point. I got the bleeding under control at the hospital and came home after 3 days. I am now scheduled for another sigmoidoscopy on Thursday because after cutting back on some of the suppositories etc. I have started bleeding again. Is this usual? I can't believe it's really necessary to do it again. Surely something like a CAT scan is the better way to go now.

What do others think, or what has your experience of this been? Thanks.

That does sound like a bit much, it just seems like you need to find a better treatment for you. Unfortunately when I had my ct scan it showed nothing, and then when I was in the hospital a few weeks later I had severe inflammation shown from my sigmoidoscopy. Plus, ct scans have TONS of radiation and are not good for your body.

I'm not so sure... it's kind of a hit or miss if it shows thickening inflammation or not. The true test is to look on the inside and take biopsies, especially for bleeding issues. But since you just had one you really don't need another one, you just need a treatment that works. I would say, find another GI! You don't need anymore tests unless your bleeding is so severe that you're anemic.

The bleeding was from severe Crohn's and inflammation in the rectum, so everything passing made the blood vessels bleed. I had no fissures or absesses as far as they could tell. The problem is that there has to be something else going on because I am having frequent BMs but the colonoscopy showed no more Crohn's up to the ileum. My GI says maybe IBS, but he doesn't know what is happening in the small bowel. That's why I just don't see the point of another sigmoidoscopy. I know what's happening in that end already!
