anyone know what we can take for influenza?

My hubby has a case of what is "probably swine flu" Lovely. He's on tamiflu and ibuprofen. I've been staying away other than to take in food and bevs. But now I'm getting a sore throat (how his started). I've got a call in to the doc, but the nurse wasn't sure what to do. I told her I for sure couldn't take ibuprofen like him. Anyone know if there is something I can take to get ahead of this?

My doc put me on tamiflu. I also ended up on steroids and anitbiotics eventually because I got so congested I could not breathe and was very sick. I would suggest a visit to a Doctor if you suspect the flu. When i got it I was very sick for a while and it was hard to get rid of. take care, Karen

Other than the Tamiflu, I would only take Tylenol for the fever. I agree with Karendee though, if you think you have the flu, they recommend you getting to the doctor within 48 hours. Hugs, and I hope its not the flu!! Feel better!!

Try taking echinacea supplements as well as what everyone else has already mentioned. Hope you don't get sick though!

Thanks. It's wait and see until I have a fever. Let's hope that doesn't happen! Glad to know I can take Tamiflu if I need it.

Mint tea is supposed to be helpful too. Also, balm tea is also said to be good, as it induces perspiration and lowers body temperature if you have a fever.

(As always, please do check with a professional before you take any extra herbal or pharmaceutical supplements, as some can interfere with your meds).

I hope your husband gets better quickly and that you can avoid this flu yourself.

You can't wait too long before starting Tamiflu: "When you or someone in your family begins to experience flu symptoms, you have 48 hours to take action."

  • For flu treatment: When taken within two days of experiencing symptoms, TAMIFLU works by helping to stop the flu virus from spreading inside the body
  • For flu prevention: When you have been exposed to someone with the flu, taking TAMIFLU can help keep the virus from making you sick

Thanks all. He's doing a bit worse, but I'm still okay. The baby is good too. We're just counting down til he's no longer contagious.
