Confused why should i be watching what i eat with CD

Hi All

Now i have just been digionosed with CD last week and i have chronic Diahorria no stomach pains, but have a very sore butt as you would?

 

are people with CD watching what they eat because they get sore tummys constantly? so what they are eating makes them sore constantly

i seem to eat then go to toilet anytime after half hour or so for several toilet runs ha ha no punt taken?

but i am very confused about why i should be watching what i eat..

Please help me understand.. cause no matter what i eat and i do watch what i eat i still go to the bathroom like i would anyhow just more frequent

Theres loads of different reasons, and as we can all be so different we have different foods we stay away from, some things I can't eat other Crohnie's can eat, it can be quite individualistic.

For me I have to avoid high fat foods as my body can't absorb fat too well which will cause horrible D. One tip I picked up for this was to take calcium supplements when I eat something high fat as it binds with what doesn't get absorbed and so lessens the D and the burn! When I'm flaring I also get narrowings so I can't eat fruits and veg or anything too high in fibre as it gets stuck which could then cause a blockage.

A lot of people with Crohn's also have intolerances, lactose intolerance is quite common so for some cutting out dairy products really helps.

For alot of people, how it goes in, is how it comes out. For some people, things are prone to get stuck on the way down. Most people learn the hard way what hurts and irritates coming out. With experience, you will find out what hurts you.

I think this differs for everyone. Some people can tell you precisely what foods bother them. Other, like me, can't pinpoint anything in particular that causes problems. It's a lot of trial and error.

Foods have never directly bothered my CD so everyone is different, I have chosen to alter my diet for better overall health so that's why I limit what I eat, not because of it making my CD worse directly, like I can eat popcorn and salads (2 biggies that most IBDers have issues with) and it doesn't hurt my guts or make me have D instantly or even the next day or anything.

If you feel that some foods are bothersome to you, but you're not sure which ones then do a food journal to help weed out foods that bother your gut.

Hi,

On the day my doctor diagnosed me with CD 9 yrs ago he told me not to eat raw fruits, raw vegetables and cereals. I followed these guidelines for 6months then once in remission I slowly began eating them again. When I have a flareup now I still go back to these food rules. Everyone is different and can tolerate different foods. You will soon learn what bothers you. I don't get pain either but definetly the diarrhea when I eat stuff I know bothers me. For me I definetly stay away from artificial sweetners, diet sodas,and chewing gum even on a good day.

You watch what you eat because your body simply can't just take in whatever you crave.
Some of us have trouble with fresh fruits and vegetables, some with red meat, some with spicy food, etc.
It just depends on what you can tolerate.
Also, there is much research done on microbes in your gut that can really hurt you and feed off of specific kinds of foods. Certain components in what you eat help maintain their health and/or are beneficial to their equivalent of a cell wall i.e. capsule.

And then there is the simple fact of life that everyone needs to watch what they eat if they want to be healthy. We just have to a little bit more so because we tend to be a little more sensitive.

And don't even get me started on the chemicals, additives, pesticides, etc. in 'normal' food virtually everyone buys and consumes.

And on a side note:
I just wanted to add that it IS a digestive order. There aren't many things that have a closer connection and relationship with our digestive system than the food we eat so..I'm sure you can see the correlation and importance here..
