MTX - under the skin or into the muscle?

I was wondering if any one takes their injections just under the skin? How? Where?

I have a cousin who is a doctor who has Crohn's and only got to speak to him briefly at a funeral but he said he just injects it under the skin, much easier.

Have an appointment with GI June 9th so not sure what direction we are headed.

Hi,

MTX is injected SQ under the skin. I have had mine in my hip, my upper arm, or abdomen. It doesn't hurt at all.

I did mine (was taught to do mine) as IM. Shot in the thigh, but still easy enough. Didn't hurt a bit, I just had to get over stabbing myself. It was the first shot I ever gave myself...  Interesting to hear the other answers to this.  I wonder if IM vs Subcutaneous changes the efficacy.

Have had IM injections at clinic and my husband gives them to me alternating arms. Thought if I did it to myself it would be in the thigh but haven't done so yet. Initially, didn't even feel them but more so now. Not a big deal but husband thought maybe there was some scar tissue build up if you do it in the same place too many times?

IM with a short, sharp needle.

I alcohol wipe the top of the MTX vial and then the area I will be jabbing and finally my fingertips.
*If you let the alcohol DRY it does not sting. If you DO NOT let it dry, it WILL sting!
I draw the dose and then firmly apply the needle straight in and inject slowly. I then sort of 'pinch/rub' the area to prevent any MTX from coming out the injection path and apply a bandaid.

I inject, working in a circle around my body, so each injection site has about 9 weeks between being used:
L upper arm, L middle-of arm, L hip area, L upper thigh, L middle-of thigh, R middle-of thigh, R upper thigh, R hip area, R middle-of arm, R upper arm.

Under the skin, when I went for injection training there was confusion as one document said intramuscular but the others said subcutaneous, but apparently mine are supposed to be subcutcaneous/under the skin. I was very skinny at the time of training so only had enough fat on my belly so I still do it there but alternate sides and each week and try not to do it in the same spot.
