hiya.im a newby here.was just wondering if anyone has been on methotrexate and has had any side affects from drinking alcohol while on it?im 35 and the thought of not being able to drink for god knows how long is abit strange and frustrating for me.anyhoo be good to hear other peoples thoughts on this.cheers

I've never been on it myself, but has a friend who is. Her doctor said she can have 10 drinks per week.

My doctor knows I am a wine-lover. I was never warned to not drink on MTX. Certainly moderation is important with all these drugs that are hard on the liver. But, I continued to drink while I was on MTX.

My doc asked about my drinking habits before letting me start methotrexate. Since I am a non drinker anyway she advised me to drink absolutely no alchol while on MTX. I don't know what she would have said if I were an occassional or moderate drinker.
The label of course says no alcohol with mtx.

Well I was put on it when I was 15 (7 years ago) and I asked my GI if I would it be OK if I drank on occasions and he said it was absolutely fine for me to enjoy a drink as long as my liver function tests remained OK. 7 years on and throughout that time I've drank on a pretty regular basis - perhaps a little too much (I am your typical uni student though lol) I just never drink the day after methotrexate as it makes me feel ill probably because my livers working to process the methotrexate and putting alcohol on top of it is just too much, I do get worse hangovers though. My liver function has remained absolutely fine the entire time, obviously if there were any changes I'd cut out the alcohol.
