My fiance, my parents and my friends, are all wondering, as well as believing that remicade is the cause of the arthitis. Has anyone else wondered for those of you who have crohn's and now suffer from RA after remicade. I say it's just the crohn's disease that has worsen,and it has caused the RA. Anyone elses thoughts would be great. Thanks

I've never heard that theory before, remicade is also used to treat arthritis though isn't it? I'd be surprised if it did but heck with all the things drugs can potentially cause these days who knows!

it is also to treat arthritis,for me however I never had the arthritis before remicade, now I suffer so much from RA I am unable to do a thing. I run high fever from the pain as well, but never had this before I started remicade, so it was a thought. Thank you for your thoughts much appreciated

Have you been checked out by a rhumatologist? My son was on Remicade for a year and a half. It was great for the first year and then he developed antibodies to it. He began to get terrible joint pain and swelling. He had none of this before he began treatment. Once he was off Remicade his joint pain and inflammation also dissappeared. Ask your GI about testing you for antibodies to the Remicade. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this advice, I didn't think of this, well because no one told me about this I didn't even know about anitbodies were until now. I hope this may be the case for me, as I was thinking maybe I should turn to Humira. I will be seeing my doc on Friday and I will tell her to test me. They never gave me a specialist for the RA. How long did you son stop feeling the joint pains and swelling after not using remicade anymore? remicade is no longer working for my Crohn's and inceases the RA everytime I go for an infusion.

sorry wanted to mention I too have been on remicade for  a year and 4 months, it was great for the first 9 months working wonderings. I thought it was my answer, then this horrible arthritis started and crohn's always flaring up now.

Hi again! As the Remicade would wear off his joint pain would become bad and it would subside for several weeks during the hight of the effectiveness of the Remicade. Once he was off the Remicade it probably took one to two weeks until he felt relief from the joint pain. He is now on Humira and has been on for almost a year. Unfortunatly he seems to once again be beginning to develope antibodies to it. I think you have to look at these drugs as serving you as long as they can and when they fail( if they fail) you have to move on to the next treatment. New drugs are being developed all the time and I think it is important to recognize how the Remicade helped for a period of time and not advise people not to take them because they may eventually fail. Are you on Imuran or Methotrexate along with the Remicade? It is standard of care to also be on one of those drugs simultaniously ( with the Remicade) to try to avoid antibody buildup. You should also ask your doctor about that as well. Glad you are able to investigate this further and I hope you get the help you need.

My daughter's GI said that it is now protocol to NOT be on Imuran and Remicade at the same time. I beleive this arose from the fact that several patients on both devloped lymphoma.

wow!! Thanks for that... because I was thinking of doing Imuran rather then MTX... has her doctor put her on this? or spoke about it? I feel my GI is so busy as she is the only GI at the hospital near my house, so she doesn't have allot of time to inform be about allot of things. Thinking of switching doctor's.  As well, does your daughter suffer from joint pains and swelling?
