Hi all,

My GI wants me to start taking a more "serious" med and I am wondering if you have had experience with one that has minimal side effects. I also have polycycstic kidney disease so I don't metabolized meds well. Often the side effects are worse than this actual disease itself. I can deal with the daily bouts of D and constant right side pain, but it is the fatigue that I can't deal with.  I had a TI resection in 2006 and felt well at first but have had active disease since last August. Rounds of prednisone work for awhile but not long after the fatigue comes back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I tried exercising to help with the fatigue but that didn't work either.

Have you had any blood tests ran lately? Maybe you are anemic?

As for meds, I did pretty well on 6mp. I took it at night and it helped me to avoid any of the side effects.

My blood work always comes back Ok. I am giong to have him check my B12 levels. Do you only have to take 6 MP once a day? Because if I can take it once at night that would be great. Thanks

My new GI has suggested 6mp for me as well and I don't know if this can be done for all meds or just this one imparticular but he just had me do a blood test to see how my body would metabolize it to better figure out dosing and ?? he said I could either do this test before I started or start the meds and then go in for blood tests every week for a couple of weeks till they get the dosing right? I chose the first and don't know when I will get answers, or even how much it will cost me as I haven't gotten the bill from the lab yet, but if you have issues metabolizig the meds you should atleast ask your Dr. about this test.

I know that I had to have weekly blood test when I was on Imuran but that was before my resection. I was on Imuran, Entocort, Prednisone and Asacol at the same time this made it impossible to tell which of these was making me ill or if it was my bowel obstructions. Thanks for the heads up.
