Can you develop RA and have crohns???

Hello,

Does anyone have Rhuematoid arthritis?? I have been experiencing some major swelling and joint pain in my knees.. saw my doc on momday sent me for a xray. My GP tested me for RA and Lupus they came back negative, but my Gastro says that test would come back negative anyways do to the meds iam on. The other night I had extreme joint pain in my knees and they felt like they were on fire.. and I had a fever and very nauseous.. was horrible really scared me.. so can you develop RA with Crohns.

Yes it is possible to have more than one autoimmune disease, so yes you could have RA and Crohns at the same time. I have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and also Spondlyarthopy related to my Crohns, so I have alot of joint pain too.

There is also a Crohn's related arthritis. It is not quite the same as RA, since it seems to be the tissue around the joint that is inflamed, but it is very like it. If it is the Crohn's related arthritis, it can be improved by controlling the Crohn's. Apparently there is no lasting joint damage from it, so real relief can be had. Did your gastro not mention the possibility?

Hi, Yes I have Rhuematoid arthritis and also Crohn's. My RA is more notiable turning the cold weather.

That's funny, my RA is much worse during hot weather. Everyone is so different.
Yes, having one AI disorder actually makes it more likely you will be diagnosed with a second one. And as another poster mentioned there is also the possibilty of Chron's arthritis.

Hi!

I was on remicade and it caused remicade induce RA. But I have now stop it and went back on Imuran and now doing humira, all the joint pains were gone in a week. It was unbelieveable. I was seriously crippled and now I walk like I never had RA but I can say that my knees are still a bit deformed from the RA but no more pain.

But my doctor always said it was the crohn's that was causing the RA (I knew different) I don't suggest taking RA meds tho, sent my crohn's into a flar and ended up in the ER. What meds are you currently on?!
