terminology help, please

First of all let me say that it can't be that great because he states the intention was "advancing to the cecum. The scope was advanced to the descending colon before the procedure was aborted."  Where is my cecum and how far is it from the descending colon?

He also puts that there was "Patchy severe inflammation characterized by congestion (edema), erosions, friability, granularity and deep ulcerations was found in the rectum and in the recto-sigmoid colon. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology."   I assume congestion just means swelling, what are erosions, friability, and granularity?

The next line reads all of the above in addition to: erythema and confluent ulcerations located from 40 to 60 cm proximal to the anus.    What are these?

Then also "Appears to possibly have false lumen at 50cm, abcess??, fistula? "    What is a false lumen

I guess I also need to go to medical school.

A couple of weeks ago he told me to restart my entocort and he wanted to start me on 6mp, today however he told me to switch to prednisone indefinately and he wants me to start remicade.    Isn't remicade one of the big guns? Is it typical to go to this before trying other things?

Your colon is llike an inverted U. The cecum is on the right side, where yuor small bowel connects and empties into your colon. Put your hand on your lower right abdomen, about waist level. Move up to just below the rib cage. That is the cecum. Then move it from right to left across your belly just below your ribs. That is the transverse colon. Then move it down and slightly to trhe center on the left side. That is the descending colon, which leads into the rectum and then to the anus and out. He only got to the top of the left side and his report indicates that you have a lot of active disease in that part of your colon.

Erosions are areas of irritation on the verge of becoming ulcers. Friability means the colon wall is thinned and fragile, which is probably why he went no further, since that increases the risk of performation. Granularity refers to a cobblestone appearance of the bowel wall, and it is a strong indicator of Crohns. Erythema means inflamed. Not sure what he means by false lumen. The bottom line is yuo have a lot of active inflammation and ulceration in at least your rectal and descending colon regions.
