Bowels after surgery

So this question is probably TMI. I am finally having bowel movements from surgery on Monday. However, they are black! Is this normal for after surgery? The surgeon didn't mention it and I was thinking of calling them in the morning. But thought I would ask the Crohns Specialist (you guys!) first!

Hi Amy,

My first bowel movements after surgery looked like coffee grounds-really dark almost black. Sounds pretty normal to me if it's your first few bowel movements.

Its been awhile since my last resection and to tell you the truth I don't remember. Could just be because of meds you were given or taken, but to be on the safe side ask the doc if this is okay. Good luck!
