Hi everyone. Hope all is well. Question?/ I had a follow up Utrasound today following a sigmoid colectomy and the Radiologist said I have a fatty liver and that this may be from my mediaction. I have been infused with Remicade and I take 200mg of Immuran. Has anyone had this issue. Oh I will be honest I have aprrox 4-6 beers a week!! I love the taste of it but it is bad i know

Any thougts are appreciated

Um, if i read correctly you just had some of your large intestine removed. Um i know its friday but alcohol does irritate the bowel so take it easy. I was reattached but it didnt last say a few years and i had trouble again , hope you do a bit better than I did gl.

4-6 beers a day might do it but I don't know about 4-6 a week. I haven't heard anything about it happening from the meds but I hope that isn't the cause =\ Have you spoken with your dr about that yet? I would be interested in what they had to say about it.

I Had surgery in Sept/08, I did not drink any alcohol for 6 months. My doctor told me it was fine as lond as I didn't abuse it. They say more than 2 a day is abuse. My bowels have been great and I feel awesome until I heard about the liver thing. I don't think it is very serious but some info would be good.

While we are talking about intestine removal. Before I had my surgery certain foods killed me. I have over tried those foods over the past few months and they don't bug me anymore. It weird. I read a book a few years back on how your bowel breaks down certain foods. I guess the 8" they took out were not able to break down beef a spices

Here is some info about fatty liver. Usually it is caused by too much fat in your diet, malnutrition, and some meds. But I would talk to your doctor about continuing drinking as it seems as alchohol is not good with a fatty liver. Good luck!

disagree..fatty liver is Not caused by too much fat in diet. insulin resistance might be cause..... fatty liver or cholangitis may cause liver enzyme abnormalities.

Yes, guilty of fatty liver, too. It's been noted but no one seems to worry about it; so I won't. I don't drink and I don't digest fat. My guess would be the meds.

I have a fatty liver. I was advised it would help me to lose weight. Im really rubbish at that though, which I know is weird for someone with crohns. I was told by the consultant that part of my problem is that fat from me been overweight gets into my liver.

Laslow pretty much all the food breakdown, digestion and absoption takes place between the stomach and the terminal ileum. The colon -- especiallythe sigmoid which you had removed -- mostly just absorbs water from the waste products. I suspect it is more likely that the removal of the sigmoid took out the prime area of inflammation. I doubt that it would have anything yo do with specific food tolerance. As for fatty liver, thereare a lot of possible causes and Crohns or meds are only some of them. The best indicator is your liver enzymes on blood tests -- any abnormalities there?
