flying on belated honeymoon and I don't want to get sick...

Okay, I'm going with my DH to Hawai'i this next week. The catch? I don't want to get sick from my fellow passengers, partly because even BEFORE I was on the immunosupressents, I ALWAYS got sick, now I am on a lot (Cimzia, prednisone, Imuran), and with these, the chance of me getting sick is so much greater..

I've looked and looked in regards to a profalatic use of a face mask, and I haven't found any clear answers... My DH and I want to use them;
1. while at the airport
2. especially on the plane...yeah there may be filters, but I don't want to risk them not working, or because I am sitting next to typhoid harry, larry or mary.

So TSA nor the CDC does not say that they are prohibited. Can we still wear them? We do have the N95 masks. Has anyone done this lately? Are there any issues with the screeners? Just to stress, we DO NOT have an illness, we just don't want to catch one.

Any help or comments would be ever so greatly appreciated. Thank you

I think if anything they might ask you to remove them while going thru security, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't wear them. I am probably going to get some for myself at least (probably not cool enough for hubby:) as I will be flying down to see family in Mexico in October. Also, Ivy's idea about those hand sanitizers is a good one too. Good luck and have fun!!

You have more chance of getting something from touching somewhere and then touching your nose or eyes. Get some hand sanitizer spray and use it all the time. They come is small mist bottles and are easy to carry and use on your hands anytime. Have a great trip and enjoy....

Thanks for the replies...the mask also helps from me touching my mouth or eyes...one of the primary routes of transmission...I leave in two days...first time going to Hawai'i without having to work(I was a Navy Reservist)...woohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just spent the afternoon on the TSA site to figure out if I can bring a frosted cake on the plane.  The site does not give detailed yes answers on anything.  My suggestion is bring and wear them if it makes you more comfortable.  At most, they would ask you to remove them...that's not going to stop your lovely trip so go for it.

I also bring a botlle of saline for my nose and eyes on planes with me.  Since I have been putting drops in my eyes during flight and snorting up saline (put a puddle in my palm instead of buying two saline bottles), I have not caught a cold after flying.  Before the saline, I got a cold after literally every flight.  I believe keeping both hydrated prevents some influx of what's in that recirculated air.

ps...the best answer I got about the cake is..they are allowed, but may be subject to additional scrutiny.  Since additional scrutiny is so vague & may mean ruining my icing work, I am not taking the cake.
