Hey everyone,
I'm new here, and so glad to have found some support and people who have gone through the same things I have!!
I wrote up my history in a previous post, so I won't go all into it again- but I had surgery this year to drain a "chronic rectal abscess" that went undiagnosed for 3+years. I felt pretty good for a few weeks, and then they went in again to address the old abscess spot and a bump/swelling to the right of my rectum, that goes almost up to my tailbone- maybe 2 1/2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. My CRS says he thinks this spot is inflamed tissue or muscle, not an abscess, although he admits he is not sure. He did put me on cipro and flagyl for two weeks to see if this helps. I feel like a new woman, after only 6 days on the new pills!
I had been having diarrhea since my last surgery, and this stopped literally 12 hours after my first doses of the antibiotics. My pain and pressure have also subsided significantly, as has the swelling. The bump itself is almost completely gone, I can still feel it but it is tiny. I can actually sit in my chair in my office without contorting my body :)
So my questions: he had wanted an MRI next week, but I'm wondering if this is the best time, since I am feeling so much better from the antibiotics? Typically what happens is that after I go off the antibiotics, I slowly start to feel worse and the pain comes back. It is always in the same place, hasn't changed in 3 1/2 years, which makes me almost positive it is another small abscess, or as someone in a previous post said "encapsulated infection." This would be my third MRI in two years, and I'm thinking it may be more helpful to see what happens when I go off the antibiotics... hoping for the best but also prepared for what has always happened.
What do I do? Also any thoughts on why after only 12 hours the diarrhea was gone? Does this sound like a Crohn's abscess/fistula?
Thanks in advance for any guidance!!
