Hi, about a month ago, I decided to stop taking my pentasa.  I was diagnosed 3 years ago next month with Crohn's and have been taking Pentasa 4 times a day.  Anyway, I thought I would just see if maybe a miracle had occured and I could stop taking those honking big pills :(  All was well until a couple of days ago.  I have been so sick.  Just like when it started; metallic taste in my mouth, can't eat anything without running to the bathroom 15 minutes later, tired.  And (ok this is gross, but i have to ask someone - sorry) I have had a hard time having a bowel movement, and when it comes, it is thin- sort of wavy and yellow, kind of like mucus. I am scared I have really screwed myself up and am afraid to tell my Doctor.  Has anyone else had any of these symptoms?  Thanks so much

nah just tell him. You are very lucky to have something that worked. Just go back to it and all is well.

Oh I hope you get better soon.
I think the yellow stuff is not that bad as long as it is not bleeding.
But just go to your doc and tell him the truth be fore you get worse.



But just to remind you all, never ever stop taking your meds with out talking to the doc first ;)

You have to be honest with your doc. Otherwise he may not treat you accurately. I would bet they hear this a lot. I've made mistakes in my meds and it caused problems. It was embarrassing to admit, but it was the only way to get back on track. Have you started back on the pentasa? The sooner the better. I've been in a major flare and I've had weird looking "stuff" too. It amazes me what comes out when I've been without anything going in for a few days.

You're not stupid, you just made an honest mistake, many people have done it...thinking that they're doing so well so they take the chance and go off their meds (which are helping them) only to find out that it was infact the meds helping and not some miracle....still, don't be so hard on yourself, the disease still has a mind of it's own and tons of people relaps even while on their meds faithfully, it can be the nature of the beast.

As the others have said, be honest with your doc, I'm sure he's heard a similar story dozens of times. Wanting to experiment with going drug-free doesn't make you stupid, for what it's worth.

Just go back on it...and your symptoms are probally because you have Crohn's...and not because you stopped taking your med...i have stopped taking my Pentasa so many times..i have been so angry some days..that i am sick and sometimes..i have been...in denial...don't worry...a few days back on it and you should feel better :)

I didn't want to take my meds either, thought I would be fine without them. That ended very ugly with an emergency resection due to complete obstruction. Now I am a good girl and always take my meds. I am maintained on only Asacol and you with Pentasa. These are the mildest meds out there. Get back on them and when you see the doc do be honest with him. Your not stupid, we just get feeling so much better on the meds sometimes, that we think "oh okay, I am fine now", but little did we know they were what was causing us to feel better. We always have to remember that we have a chronic and incurable disease. This isn't like an infection we can take antibiotics for and get better and forget about it. I am a firm believer on taking maintainence meds at ALL times. I learned the hard way what happens when you don't. Take this as a lesson learned. Good luck and I hope you get feeling better soon.
