Hi all! I am new here, my partner has Crohn's (diagnosed in 02), is on Remicade every six weeks and has a J-Pouch. I am always reading here, but never posted!

Our son was diagnosed with H1N1 today. His symptoms aren't that bad, just normal flu stuff. I called my partners GI and spoke to the nurse there, and she said there was nothing that he could do about it now, that he had already been exposed. But, to call at the first sign of a symptom.

Anyone out there with Crohn's who has had H1N1?? How bad will it be? Hospital stay??

I think I might be more nervous than he is!

Hey Sally,

I know that we have had a couple of family members of Crohnies that got H1N1. The doctors put the Crohnies on Tamiflu if they started showing signs. So if your partner spikes a temp, call his doctor asap and get him on Tamiflu at the first hint and I think he should be okay.

My son had H1N1 last month, our doctor put both myself and my husband on Tamiflu. Since it was more of a risk for me to catch it, he didn't even want me to start coming down with it. My son was on Tamiflu starting on day one, and STILL got pneumonia on day 3. It was a pretty nasty virus. He didn't need a hospital stay, but was in and out of urgent care a few times. With a breathing treatment, inhalers, antibiotics, and like I said the Tamiflu. I hope your son has a mild case, and that your partner doesn't catch it!

I know I'd see about the Tamiflu though, I felt better having it that week. I never caught it (knock on wood for the future).

I came down with H1N1 early last week, and I have Crohn's.  My husband brought it home, and we did everything possible to limit my exposure.  We used so much Lysol and Purel it wasn't funny, and washed our hands half to death.  By the time he knew he had it, I was already exposed.

I have had killing body aches. I can't describe how sore I am, but I feel as if I fell and bruised an entire side of my body, only on both sides. Rolling over in bed hurts a lot.

I have had a terrible headache, and a fever for 10 days now.  My normal temp is around 97.4.  With this flu, it has been 100.5, going higher quite often.  The fever causes chills, then makes my skin feel baked or sunburned.

I had a sore throat most of last week, but it feels better now. I've had nausea and diarrhea, which sounds like normal life, but it's definitely different.  I haven't had much of a cough, which is a blessing because I get pneumonia very easily. My husband is still coughing some, after three weeks.

I went to the doctor last Monday, and was tested for H1N1, but the doctor didn't offer Tamiflu.  She prescribed a cough medicine to help me sleep more comfortably.  ???   I think I am finished with the walk-in clinic, because that is weird to me. I'm wasn't coughing, but she gave me a narcotic cough medicine so I could sleep.

I hope you stay well, and that your partner does, too.  I'm having a hard time getting over this.

Thanks for all the input!!

I did ask about the Tamiflu, nurse just said to call if he starts to feel it coming on. I would almost rather him go on it now, and hopefully avoid the illness!!!

I've heard much about the Pneumonia that comes with this. My son seems to be coughing less...I think that's a good sign? !

Man, that sounds rough!! (sweettea) that is a long time to be sick. I hope you kick it soon. Have you talked to your GI doc about it???

I would be asking (demanding) for tamiflu for everyone in the house.

My daughter called late last night from her dorm. Everyone in the suite next to her has swine and all of her roommates were over visiting. She is scared to death of being sick. She locked herself in her room for the night and will be coming home after class today for the remainder of the week, maybe more. But if she has already been infected, we are sunk. I told her to bring her TV home, because she won't be leaving her room except for bathroom breaks!

I hope your son doesn't get it too bad and that he is feeling better soon.

Just thought I'd give a quick update. No signs of the flu per say (coughing, fever, etc) for Partner, but is feeling more run down today than normal...So while I check the kids temp compulsively I've added him into my rotation!!!
