The swine flu has been going round for weeks here - I couldn't even tell you how many people I know with it so far. Dozens and dozens. One has had complications - a young man, age 25, with underlying health issues. He was hospitalized with pneumonia from it for 5 days and went home today. Other than that, it's just a regular flu. Most got TamiFlu and were out of commission just a few days.
Matter of fact, I even was at a retreat with a child that came down with it 12 hours after leaving time with me.
I am a minister. I work with people, children, families, homeless, etc. I can't seclude myself in the house and do my job. I am smart in my handwashing and other things I already need to do. I haven't seen my GI since this whole mess came back around so I don't know what he would recommend. I have not received flu vaccine, pneumonia vaccine, and don't have plans right now to do swine. I figure by the time it's available to me, it may have already run it's course. SO MANY have already had it.
Part of me wonders if I have already had it (they think some of us in the 70s likely were already exposed) and that's why I haven't gotten sick yet, or I've just been very lucky. I've been in very close contact with people with it and just didn't know it until later.
I HAVE opted to not do anymore hospital visits, however, until things run it's course. Just in case.
