Is anyone from Canada getting the H1N1 vaccine shot? The Canadian shot contains Squalene and while the link between Squalene and Gulf War Syndrome and other autoimmue diseases have been debunked by recent studies, the viral anti-vaccine marketing compaign (with very little proof) taking place on the internet makes me uneasy (especially since I am suseptible to auto-immune diseases). I curse Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carey.

Hi fellow CANUCK here yes i am getting the shot and flu shot as well my GI and Family doc are both in agreement i am to have it as well as my 16 yr old daughter...take care lyn

You should discuss this with your doctor, but if he/she suggests it I certainly would take his/her advice.

Yes. I already got the regular flu vaccine after a doctors visit and she recommended I get the H1N1 shot as soon as possible. Not the nose swab one though, I got the injection. However, I was supposed to get the dead virus but I am not completely sure I did...woops? Fingers crossed I won't have any flu related problems, but I suspect I will.

I am debating, if you go under Dr. Oz , it seems he is not giving to his wife and kids. Says he had to take it , because he is in the medical profession.

It is plastered all over the news in Ontario, that a healthy 13 year old just died of H1N1..everybody is now panicking , I am one of those people.
I am more worried about the kids..

What to do?

I am getting the regular flu shot next week, and I hope to get the H1N1 as soon it becomes available; our son is scheduled for the swine flu vaccine early Nov. few years back I got the flu, bad, bad, bad, and then our son got it bad, bad, he had to be hospitalized. Hence, I am not sure we are going to skip it this year.

I hate the idea of being a guinea pig for a new vaccine so at this point I am not planning on it. It's probably too late anyway because I was just around people at work who think they have it. Why are they going in to work when they think they have swine flu?????

Both my GI and primary docs have advised me to get the shot. I've already had the seasonal flu shot without any problem. My poor body can't handle anything else - I can't take a chance of getting the H1N1 flu.

Great question.  I also find it annoying.  It's another reason why I followed my doctors advice and got the vaccine...

I plan to get the H1N1 shot. I HATE being sick - the headache, stuffed nose, runny nose, red nose, sore throat, aches, fatigue, fever, chills, cough, possible complications (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus infection to name a few), possible need for antibiotics leading to possible further complications (i.e. c-diff, yeast infection...), time off of work and exercise routine, possibly passing it on to family and friends, missed vacations, etc. Yes, I am going to get the H1N1 shot. I already got the seasonal flu shot. Stay well everyone!!

I am not going to be taking either flu shot. I have not had one since 1976 when I took one and was waylaided for three weeks with the flu. I am ototoxic and have malabsorption problems and my NP advised against both even though the 40 mgs of Pred make me succeptible. But that's just me.

I have never had a flu shot before, so I will probably not have a swine flu shot this year.  I wash my hands often.

I just came back from a 2 week vacation in China.  I was so worried about swine flu and being quarantined in China.  Fortunately that did not happen.  I was lucky.

Hi all I myself just got out of the hospital again and had the regular flu shot and had the cold ever since but I always do ever year I gte it,as 4 the Swine flu there is 2 many bad things about it 4 me 2 hold out my arms and say yes so I'm turning down the neddle against doctors rules because of the side effects its 2 scary 4 me...

I don't know yet. I had a bug a few weeks ago and I am not sure if it was the SF or not. I had fever and it went straight to my chest. I have been on an inhaler and singulair ever since.

I'm in Canada and my 12yr old will be getting it as well as my other 4 kids. The kids will be in a clinical study for it. They are conducting the steady to look how effective the vaccine is in children with IBD. To assess the immune systems response, if the immunosuppressice drugs affect the response, and to follow any potential side effects of the vaccine, flu-like illness and IBD activity over the winter. Then they will compare her results with her siblings because their response should be normal as they are healthy.

I think for her the pros of the vaccine far outweigh the cons at this moment in time.
