Well first I would like to say thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. My sister told me that she was updating for me!
I am still currently in the hospital. I had my first surgery(an ileocolectomy) on October 6th. It was done open, I wasnt away that it could be done laproscopically now. Anyways, They removed about half of my colon and some of my small intestines, alot was scar tissue in the colon but what was in the small intestine was new developing disease. I was in the hospital for two weeks recovering from the surgery and was discharged with a fever and a UTI on antibiotics that I couldnt afford. (Zyvox=1000 dollars for 10 pills) I was also given Percocet for pain, which didnt help. After being home for a day and trying to talk with the doctors on an antibiotic I could afford I woke up in excruciating pain. We called the doctor and they perscribed Amoxicillon for the UTI and said if my fever(106.8 at that time) didnt go away by the morning to go ahead and come back. My head hurt so bad I could barely keep my eyes open. I took one of the Amoxicillon pills at about 12pm and at around 5pm the percocets were not helping, I went back to the ER. They did a CT and found the abscesses and I think the docs comment was this exactly "Its a good thing you came when you did, these abscesses were close to rupturing" which we all know could have ended horribly. I was admitted and started on three different antibiotics and the next day they went in and drained the abscesses. That was on the 17th(ironically, my 20th birthday. ) And since then I have continued the antibiotics through a picc line, love these things, get poked once and they never have to again. During my surgery stay I had an IV and the veins would blow after 1-2 days. I looked like a pin cushion with bruises. They even draw blood from it!!!
They did a CT scan a few days ago and the abscesses are still present but are smaller. I have fluid collection under my incision so instead of letting it heal they come in every morning and break it back open with a big Q-tip and drain it. Not the most pleasent experience to say the least. They have started packing it to keep it open the last couple of days.
The doctors are thinking another 5 days on the IV antibiotics and then try to do oral antibiotics and then....GO HOME!!!
Of course I am still on TPN and Lipids through the Picc and I havent been eating much. I was on gut rest for a month, so its hard to start eating....Im sure some of you know. I think its a mind thing......and its painful when I eat, but I am working on it. Baby steps.
And there is the issue of pain control, I currently have a PCA pump with a continuous rate and I can push the button for extra help if I need it.
I am also gettin Toradol every 6 hours as needed.
So if I can get off the TPN and switch to oral EVERYTHING I can go home soon. I know that there is alot of healing left to go, but I feel confident that the worst is over. I know the Lord will take care of things, he has so far!!!!
Oh yea, and I still have no insurance. AHHHH I cant even think/worry about that right now. Ill give myself ulcers worrying about that. Ha.
Well again, thank you for the thoughts and prayers, and Im sorry this is so long.
Rebecca
GOD IS SO AMAZING!!!!
