You posted a question to me on another thread, I just didn't want my response to get lost in the shuffle.

Ive had my fistula for over a year now, its located about 1 inch directly above my bellybutton. I had a resection surgery, then 3 abscesses there and thats what caused the fistula to form. At first it was about the diameter of a baseball, now its the diameter of a pencil. I will be having surgery on Nov 20th to have it repaired. I'm not sure what all you ment by the state of if, I hope I was able to answer your question...if not let me know what else you would like to know!! =)

Hi Mag,

Thanks for your answer.  I'm always looking to see the progress of others that have had an abdomial fistula or abscess. This is what my daughter had almost a year ago now. It seems that yours was brought on by somewhat of a leak at the sutured repair following resection. Do I understand correctly that your fistula has come through the skin? 

I hope the surgical repair will take care of it for you.

Yes, what happened was I had a resection, and I was on 60mg of prednisone at the time, so I got a horrible abscess under the scar, I had to have surgery to clean it out, and I had to leave it open and let it heal on its own, so I had a wound VAC which is constant suction to keep icky stuff out of it. It eventually healed, but soon after got infected again, I believe the suction from the VAC caused the leak...leaving the fistula.  It is through the skin, and about 1-2 inches deep.
