(popping in from the UC forum)
I switched from Asacol to Apriso in July or so, and LOVE it so far. I was in remission when I switched, and was a bit apprehensive about switching (why rock the boat, you know?), but I was also having a LOT of trouble (even with an alarm on my cell phone) remembering my noon dose, and sometimes my evening dose of Asacol. I was also seeing capsules with medicine still in them in my stool, and since Apriso dissolves at a lower pH than Asacol, and UCers (not sure about CDers) are believed to have lower gut pH, I thought it was worth a shot. Since I switched, I feel that my remission is a bit more solid, but that could just be because I was further from the flare and things just got that much less inflammed.
I'm not familiar with Pentasa in terms of what part of the digestive tract it treats. I'm pretty sure Apriso starts dissolving in the terminal ileum, but I'm not sure. I'd ask your son's doctor to make sure Apriso will treat the same area that Pentasa does.
