Hi, Well tomorrow I have to go to the hospital to have a CT-Scan done. I have to drink barrium 2 hours
before the test. My Gi Doctor wants to see how the crohn's is doing.

You should have asked for gastrofin.

That's what I had, the gastrofin, and it's not nearly as bad as the other stuff. Good Luck today!

I think that is what they usually use with CT Scans. I have never drank the thick stuff with any of my CT Scans, just the Gastrofin.
Good luck with your test Teddy, and do keep us posted on the results.

What is the difference between gastrofin and barium? I consider barium to be my arch nemesis.
Good luck on the scan!

The barium I drink is Enteroese which is used for the CT enterography. It's mostly water, just a little barium, so it's not too bad. It's supposed to show the bowel better on a CT than the barium they used to use in CT. It doesn't upset my system near as much as the barium used for a small bowel series.
Are you talking about
Gastrograffin-it's a clear liquid? Or is it really gastrofin? Gastrograffin can act like a laxative in constipated patients, but is absorbed by the body, so it's used if they suspect a perforation because barium outside the intestines can cause peritonitis.
Good luck tomorrow TBW!

And they use Volumen for the CTEs in our area.
Good luck, TBW. I hope you get some good or at least promising results from the scan!!

I have had three ct scans...two with barium and one with a barium enema. I will NEVER have a barium enema again. I t was horrible! I think the berry or bannana flavored barium have the least nasty taste. I put it in the fridge. I use a straw and place it as far back in my throat as possible. It makes it easier because you taste less. The ct scan I had on sunday I had to drink contrast. I am not sure what the difference is, but they put ice in it and it was bitter, but not horrible. I let the tech do the enema with the contrast after she assured me it would not leave me needing to run to the toliet. She was right...it wasn't bad like the other. Good luck with your test!

I am not really sure of the time difference and if you have had your CT scan yet, but best of luck!
