Perianal Abscess: more surgery?

I had surgery on a perianal abscess on October 21st at which time a fistulatomy was performed and a seton was placed. The seton lasted about a week before my flare went ballistic and blew the seton out of me late one evening. Things have been healing pretty well until yesterday when I noticed some discomfort. There appeared to be a hemorrhoid near the abscess location but I thought that it seemed strange that it was so far from my anus. Fortunately I had a one month follow up doctor appointment today and my rectal surgeon examined my bottom and noted that I had a fistula near the surface and not a hemorrhoid.

He offered two approaches for dealing with things. Have surgery again and put in another seton or wait it out and hope that it will heal itself.

Are the odds better than zero that it will just spontaneously heal or am I better off just getting the surgery as soon as possible?

I am surprised he gave you an option...I would do the seton and maybe Remicade (or an equivalent), like Julia mentioned. You could alway have the seton removed after starting Remicade and you find it works for you...that is better than a ticking time bomb of infection:(
