zpack and crohns flare

Ok....so I had a sinus infection and unknowingly started a zpack 2 weeks ago only to end up hospitalized with my first crohns flare in 2 1/2 years...now I am out and on Entocort.  This is the last time I am taking oral antibiotics....each flare has come after a course of antiboitic....hmmmmmmm maybe I have found a way to avoid some of this turmoil....anyone else have this kind of connection?

I have never had an issue with any antibiotics and have been on the Zpack many times. However this disease has many triggers for different people

Might be just the stress on your body from being sick. My most recent flare started right after a hard hike uphill. I was really enjoying the walk and pushed my self and then like the next day I flared. As dragonfly said there seems to be so many different triggers for each of us

My daughter does fine with Zpack, but a course of Zosyn exacerbated her Crohn's. Also, we think her repeated rounds of Augmentin helped to cause Crohn's.

I've always thought Zpack is one of the safer meds because it is, in fact, one of the meds used to treat Crohn's according to the MAP theory.

I think it depends on the type of Crohn's you have. My new GI just told me that under no normal circumstances should I ever take antibiotics.
I remember before I was diagnosed my GP put me on an antibiotic (pretty sure it was a Zpack) and it was the worst (as I know now) Crohn's pain of my life. After the second pill I absolutely refused to take any more of it because it made me feel so terrible.

Augmentin has been one of the worst antibiotics for my Crohns. I refuse to take it anymore, because it caused such horrible D in me. Hope you get feeling better.

I think my current flare was caused by antibiotics. I had a HORRIBLE sinus infection...the sickest I've ever been, not counting my Crohn's. It lasted 3 weeks, and I was put on Amoxicillin...that made me SO sick (diarrhea 20+ times in a day), so I got on a different antibiotic and finally started feeling better, but then I flared. 6 months later, I'm still tapering off my pred from that.
