GI doctor in Chicago

I've had GI problems for several years now but recently they have gotten worse and include extreme chills, constant nausea and weight loss since I have little to no appetite. I've tried to control my issues with diet but haven't been successful lately. I just moved to Chicago and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a GI doctor who will take someone who has NOT been diagnosed. I have found several highly recommended ones but they require that you have been diagnosed with Crohn's or colitis. I want to make sure that I start off with someone knowledgeable and compassionate. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. (28 yr old female)

One of the top Crohns specialists in the country is Dr. Stephen Hanauer at the U. of Chicago. I don't know if he is

available for new patients, but I would bet that anyone in that GI group at the U of C would be good -- it is one of the top clinical trial centers for digestive diseases.

Thank Mike! I actually tried to get an appointment with Dr. Hanauer today and wasn't able to since I haven't been diagnosed with Crohns. Maybe one of his associated would see me though so I will try back tomorrow. It's good to know that I was starting in the right place though.

I've been to Hanauer. He's pretty good but kind of abrasive. He'll probably get pissed if you don't listen to him. Right now I go to Ece Mutlu at Rush. She's definitely a very nice person and is willing to work with you to come to a compromise.
