Good morning and happy new year!
I am writing for some clarification -- because I feel like I am going nuts! I have been on 60 mgs of Prednisone in the past, but this time the docs have me on 10 a day. Which isn't bad in the whole scheme of things...however I feel like I am getting larger in the face. Is is really possible to get moonface on only 10mgs a day??? I mean for a while people were like "nooo...you look fine" but every picture I see myself in I am looking more and more round. I hate what it looks like!
Are there any alternatives to Prednisone? I mean thankfully all the hundred other terrible side effects aren't as prevalent as they were when I was on 60 mgs...but I hate looking like this!!

Yes, it's possible to get moonface on 10mg. It does suck, I've bee on Prednisone for over 2 years straight now, I was on 100mg for a year of that..I'm finally down to 2.5mg.

The only other option is Entocort. And to tell you the truth, its a steroid too, but just absorbs differently. But not so sure you wouldn't get the moonface with that one too. Hopefully someone else will give their thoughts. Hugs!

I was on entocort for about
5 months and got moonface near the end, it wasn't too bad and wasn't immediate. I'm on pred now and it's starting to show up, I'm on 30mg right now now tapering by 5mg every two weeks... but I feel good so it's worth it!

Whenever I've been on prednisone I've always started with a high dose then dropped down to a maintenance dose. Of course I got the moon face at the high dose and I'm assuming that it s because I couldn't see food without bolting it down, the result being huge weight gain. When I went below 20mgs my appetite calmed down although I didn't loose any weight until I stopped completely. So my question Melissa is at 10 mg is you appetite more active? If so then yes your putting on weight.

You may look into humira, remicade or cimzia as alternatives to long term prednisone use.

I've been on Entocort since April 06 with very little apatite increase and no sign of moon face. No side affects at all worth mentioning actually.
