Is running fever while flaring normal?

I'm flaring, miserable, in tons of pain, and awaiting a surgeon consult (next Thurs) which can't come soon enough.

I've had high (for me) fevers since Saturday.

Normal? Or something else going on? I was planning to call my GI in the morning as well...

I'm really sorry you're having such a horrible time. I hope the surgeon, or someone, can help you soon. It sounds like calling your GI is a good idea. Running a temp seems to be common while flaring but I usually forget to check mine. blush

yes VERY VERY common for me atleast.

I tend to get that after i eat something if im flaring. I will feel my typical right side sharp pains and notice a fever of 100-103.5..

Never a runny nose, or symptoms so i know its related to my Crohn's
immune response.

Thanks for the quick responses. Last time I flared BADLY I thought I had the flu - completely oblivious that some of that kind of symptoms can just be Crohns. I'm right back there, except I don't remember this high of a fever last time, so it caught me by surprise.

I always think of a fever as an infection somewhere. Is that true for Crohns? Like, do I have an infection in my colon somewhere? Or is it just your body trying to fight the flare?

I get high fevers when im about to have a major flare up. i think its the waste not properly being disposed from your body that causes the fever.

Count me in on the fevers... One of my least favorite symptoms. I hate the exhaustion that goes along with them! So hard to drag myself to work and take care of my girl...

Fever can also be a sign of inflammation, which makes sense. It doesn;t have to point to infection, although a white count would be wise to rule that out.

Thanks, all. Makes sense with the inflammation.

Talked to the GI yesterday morning, told him about it and the other additional symptoms I've had, and he put me on 60mg prednisone. He's going to call me tomorrow and see if that worked to see if we should continue them.

I must say, I am feeling human again after just 1 day of the steroids. No fever and some of my worst symptoms are a little more management.

I don't think I have fever but I have been so cold with this flare. I wear my jacket indoors at work. I am so tired of this. I don't know what scares me or hurts me more: the disease or the medicines.

I had fever when I first got crohn's 106 then came obstuction followed by 9ft removed

right now pred and entocort, vicodon when needed, plus sleeping meds,restoril and serax
