I have had crohn's for 30 yrs. I had ostomy surgery on Oct. 12. I was doing great. I went to the specialist on Dec. 9 and he started me on 6-mp. After taking the drug for 4 weeks I woke up one morning with sores in my mouth. On Tues. this week the specialist told me I have crohn's in my mouth, he hasn't even seen me he told me on the phone. I have stopped all med at this point. Can anyone tell me if this is truly a possiblity? After surgery I had no crohn's symptoms at all. Now this after starting the 6-mp. Before surgery I was on Cimzia for a year and had no problems at all.

I have sores so bad it is in my mouth and on my tongue, the only thing that has helped so far is pred. and vicodon. my gi said the same, but there is a burning mouth syndrome. my sores move around thru out the day. I found burning mouth syndrome on webmd.com

When I'm in a flare, the insides of my cheeks always have sores on them. It's definitely a Crohn's problem. I like to suck on ice chips. I've never taken any meds for it because they always go away eventually.
This is why Crohn's is such a chronic disease and surgery is always the last option. If you cut something out, your Crohn's will just jump to another spot.

When I get mouth sores I use a prescript
ion paste called Aphthasol. I don't think most GIs prescribe it because I've had to ask each one for it and they had to look it up to figure out how to write the Rx. I first heard of it because my step-mom is a dental hygienist. Without that, my mouth sores each last about
10 -14 days and make it very difficult to eat. They are so painful. This stuff cuts the pain within a few days and speeds the healing by about
half the time.

ilgrandma, YES, crohn's can affect any part of the GI tract from the mouth to the anus...taking a good probiotic daily and indefinitely can actually aid with crohn's (including the mouth and throughout the rest of the GI tract).

I found sugar and acid type foods hard on the sores. I gargle a lot with salt water (4-5 times a day)when I get them. Sometimes get Rx with anti-viral med and they go away faster.
Hope you feel better soon
