Kitt's Husband having resection on 2/18/2010 (Update)

Hello my friends here in the Crohn's Forum.


My husband has had Crohn's for 33 years and he will be having his 4th surgery on 2/18 for a stricture that has narrowed to less then 3 mm per endoscopy.



His first surgery he had a ruptured bowel, second one he had a complete blockage, and third one he had an abcess and obstruction.



He has been on some of the old time meds years ago, Azulfidine, Prednisone and Questran to treat diarrhea. Once his stricture started to develop he was taken off of meds and told to use diet. He was never offered any of the new meds so we are not savy on all the maintainance meds as many of your are.



After this surgery we will be insisting on maintainance meds to help slow down or prevent this nasty disease. Crohn's is always present.



We have been fortunate as his last surgery was 17 years ago.............



However in August of 2008 he had a radical prostatectomy for Ca+



I am very worried about him as he has lost a lot of weight and is much older then his last surgery so if you all would find the time to perhaps say a pray for us it would be truly appreciated.

god bless you kitt and your husband, your man and I sound the same my first surgery was1970, 3 in one year, I was 20 professional athlete. sme her no new med same as you guys, now forced pred, hopefully not along period or just for maintenance, but it has moved more up my throat and mouth and tongue, stomach I really watch my food and fuel, no meat no soda, mostly vegan

Geeezz Kitt, your husband and you have had more than your share of grief. Heres hoping and praying that all goes well with surgery and that both of you get relief for a long long time..((((((((((()))))))))) big hug..

Prayers and hugs for both of you! I hope he recovers quickly and stays in a lonnnnng remission. I don't care how many years in between surgeries, that's hard on anyone.

I am glad to hear you guys will be insisting on maintenance meds after the surgery. I really do believe they help a great deal. Keep us posted on how he's doing!

My hubby had a SBFT on Monday and his surgeon called yesterday to let us know that the xrays did indeed show a tight stricture that needs to be resected.



He also added a surprise, my hubby's gallbladder is full of stones with inflammation and infection so that will need to be removed too.



My poor hubby says he will have hollow "inners" when they are finished with him.



Acutally he is doing well, staying on a very soft diet with small meals and supplemental Ensure Plus 3 times per day.



3 weeks from today for surgery and I will admit that my anxiety is up and down and all over the place. I am so thankful for all of the great people here in this forum. Just knowing you all understand this disease is a comfort.



I know I can always come here and just write down what I am feeling.
