Asacol or Lialda?

I have been on Asacol for 10 years now and my doc suggested changing to Lialda.  Lialda is a once a day capsule, as opposed to taking 3 asacol 3 X a day . . . . Does anyone have experience with Lialda?

I don't have any experience with it but thought of changing to it too. But....I have been successfully using Asacol for about 5 years now and am afraid to rock the boat with a change to Lialda. You know the old why fix it if it aint broke thoughts. I will be watching this post to see if you here anyone having success with changing to Lialda.

Thanks Nanners,  I'm a little leery too . . . I have had great success with the asacol and humira . . . . I hope someone might be able to shed light on any differences with Lialda

I have been on Lialda since June of 05 and it has been great. Better than the other meds I have tried. I like taking two pills in the am and that's it. Just wanted to let you now it has worked for me.

i switched to Lialda from Asacol in June of 2008 i cant say enough about how much better it worked and only 4 pills a day instead of 16 it is nice to get up and take medicine once a day went into remission finally with that change and higher dose of remicade

I take Asacol for my UC and I think I am going to switch to Lialda next month. My doctor said her patients do better on Lialda and I had a pretty massive flare up a couple months ago while on Asacol so now I worry about whether it is the best solution for me. I hope the Lialda helps.

This is good news for me, I will start Lialda next week after about 15 years on Asacol.  I was worried about hair loss, but I think Asacol and Lialda are about the same for that . . . . I take 9 Asacol daily . . . .Dr. says to take 4 Lialda, is that too many??

After a year on colazal and taking 9 pills a day of it, they switched me to lialda x4/day. My diseases is low in my sigmoid colon as far as we know. I was looking forward to taking a few pills a day. However, after a few days, I got diarrhea. After about a month of that I decided it was the lialda and went back to colazal-:) Sigh.... I hope it works for you. I really wanted it to work for me. Swallowing 9 pills of colazal a day isn't easy. I have to take other meds too. Too many pills to even count but at least they are all once a day. Good luck with it!!

here is a great article i found it shows how much better the results are with lialda it is a much better drug i almost lost bowel on asacol 16 pills a day and put in the hospital , switched my dose of remicade to 1000mg instead of 500 and liada 4 a day in morning it was so so awesome to start remission finally you will love lialda  here is an article about it greatness http://www.ccfa.org/ccfaprof/ibd-journal/Jan%202009%20-%20Effect%20of%20Extended%20MMX.pdf
