can anyone tell me that has experience in both entocort and pred if 2 entocort a day can be as effective as 1 pred? I was down to 1 entocort for maintenance and I started to flare really badly in my throat and canker sores and leasions on my tongue. went to my dr. not gi guy and they put me on short dose of pred. worked well. but side effect I'm not happy with am wondering if I doubled my dose of ent. if that would be equal to pred help help!!!!. don't like the constipation nor the overzealous of energy, and hard to sleep, night sweats. positive side it cleared up my throat and mouth issues. woudl prefer entocort over pred. but I hate the thought of stopping pred and the entocort anot working and then have to go heavy pred then the tper thing.

Both Entocort and Prednisone are steroids. Do not mix them together without talking with your doctor, as I do not believe they are to be taken at the same time. Entocort has less systemic side effects than Pred and takes a little longer to kick in. I think you are best talking to your doctor about this as you could hurt yourself by mixing the two. JMHO

I'm with Nanners, my doc prescribed the entocort as an alternative to the prednisone. I had been on pred a long time and it was just ravishing my bod. Although I was invincible and could leap tall buildings while on it :-)
Very dangerous to experiment on your own with any steroid. Although they are both steroids I don't think they can be compared in the way you described. Ask your GI doctor they would know best.

Entocort is targeted mainly at the terminal ileum, so I'm not sure whether that would be best for you.

Anyway, it is OK to take up to two Entocort when you have tapered down to 20mg prednisone. Then, assuming your pred taper continues to go OK (20mg and below is when it becomes trickey), on the day you taper down to zero pred, take 3 Entocort.

This is what my daughter did with her doc's blessing...we were afraid she might end up back in the hospital if the pred taper didn't work. So used Entocort to get her off the pred...she went off pred slowly after getting down to 20 mg, tapered by not more than 5 mg a week.

Stayed on Entocort for years - after all, it was trying to taper off Entocort that landed her in the hospital. Used LDN months ago to get off Entocort and seems to be fine.

The manufacturer of Entocort used to issue a warning saying not to take more than 2 pills Entocort while on pred, but I didn't notice that warning the last time I checked the latest ENtocort prescribing instructions.

So yes, 2 pills of Entocort can be as effective as pred for SOME people. And Entocort can be used to taper off pred. And yes, you can take ENtocort while on pred, but it is best to check with your doc and introduce Entocort only when you have tapered down to 20mg pred or lower.
