my remicade predicament.

So i have been on remicade for a little less than a year.
It doesnt seem to bulk my diarrhea but always takes the pain away and lets me eat more.

I want to try MTX because i really want to try for remission which i never have had.

My doctor says once i stop remicade there is no going back.

Should i do both or just MTX?

I asked them and i should hear back 2morrow.

Any increased risk?

I agree completely with Rider. As someone who stopped Remicade and lost it forever, I would add MTX and go from there. You can stop it later if it seems appropriate. This way you keep Remicade while understanding if MTX helps. Good luck!

they usually give methotrexate in order to prevent you from developing antibodies to remicade, but some people are using it as monotherapy. I believe using methotrexate in combination with remicade is less safe when you're looking at risk of infections and secondary malignancies. This is definitely true with using imuran along with Remicade. I am getting this information from Clinical Pharmacology.
