I am scheduled next week for an "exam under anesthesia" to see if the colorectal surgeon can repair an anal abscess and three fistulas. Possibility of a seton or fistulotomy depending on what he finds when he gets in there. It's at an outpatient procedure center and they said I would be there for 2-3 hours total, but I have to admit I am freaking out at lack of knowledge of what will be happening. Not really the surgeon's fault, he explained everything, but it's the unknown of what he will find once they do the exam. So I could wake up and be fine, or have a seton, or be told it didn't work at all and they need to do something more invasive. I've told my work I would be out on Monday and Tuesday, but I really don't know what the pain will be like afterwards so I could be completely wrong. Anyone else out there been through this before?
