Well, my son is in the hospital!

For me, my fiance takes me to the hospital (cause I can't drive) and he proceeds me into the hospital. Wait's until I get into a bed and see a doc, get my I.V running and morphine. once I fall asleep I tell him to go home (usually I end up in the hospital at night for some odd reason) then he'll come back whenever he wake's up (around 12pm) and comes visit for a bit and my mom comes during the evening after work. But like most of you I see the toll it takes on them being at the hospital all the time and going to work. And it is so much easier to sleep when no one is around . I too feel the need to stay awake to talk to them. So i just tell them to go home. I'm knock up on morphine and been throwing up for 15 hours.. takes a week to recover.

I said a prayer for your family and son, Good luck and give us an update!!

But I wish to follow suit with the others and suggest you ask your son what he wants with regards to your being there. I know your intentions are good but I also know how it feels having people there when all you want is to be alone.

I got to the point I did not even want people calling to check in on me...  It made me angry to have visitors. I hated feeling responsable to entertaining others. Dreaming of food I could not eat when my visitors went to lunch P'd me right off.  Having people that could not fix me dote on me made me see red.

In all honesty I was best off with myself and medical professionals....

Well, I just talked to him and he says that he's scheduled for the cat scan at 9 in the morning. Of the bowels. That will determine whether he gets the Remicade afterward. And, he insists I come up in the morning and spend the day there. I told him I would would go later in the day and catch a cab, but he said no. He wants me there. I'll talk to him more about it while I'm there.

When I was early 20s in hospital, I loved having people visit me, especially those I was close to.

In fact, I needed it because when you're young and sick it is SCARY.

Your son is lucky to have a mom like you.

Valerie3, yes, he takes Mesalamine 400 MG. 5 tablets twice a day. Is that the same as Pentasa? Cause he used Pentasa first, then this.

Navy, I'll get to your questions in a bit. I'm hungry and exhaused. I was there from 8:30 this morning until 6:15. I'm not used to that. My back and legs are killing me. I'm using a heating pad which helps.

I don't know. His heart rate has been high before he started taking it. I think. I've have to ask him. Thanks for the advice.

Interesting. I guess it was higher then usual the last time he saw his gastro because she admitted him. Plus, he lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks. You could be onto something.

I am a big fan of at least visualizing the entire gi tract, because I had disease hiding in areas that are not reached by normal egd's and colonscopies. There is a patency capsule to make sure that a pill cam would make it thru.

As far as what he is going thru right now, please be aware of it might take a couple days for his GI tract to start functioning again due to the air and trauma of a scope.

Do they think the remicade is effective? Given that he has lost 12 in 2 weeks?

Is he on anything other than remicade? Adding something like azathiaprine or methotrexate can help prolong the effectiveness of remicade, might be worth considering.

Potsie, If you don't mind me asking questions, I'd like to know a couple of things. If you do mind, tell me to back off! I've read up on Remicade because it seemed so important to you for Dinky to have this medication. What I got from the sites I read is that it actually causes the body to quit attacking itself for a period of time, is that right? Does it have soothing effects or does it allow the ulcerations to heal up enough for him to feel better and if so, how long does it take for him to feel the effects? I just wondered how quickly he'll feel like eating and getting some weight back on that kiddo! I'm so blessed that his lungs are clear and that this double dose has the potential to last longer! I have 6 kiddo's and with the exception of my young ones (11 and 12 year old girls that we adopted as babies), the older kids have been very healthy, the young ones are both disabled. My "close friend" I spoke about with Crohn's was 7 years older than me and I'm 51 years old! He passed away 1 year ago this April and his passing was due to complications of another illness unrelated to Crohn's. I spent a lifetime with quite a crush on him! He was my oldest sister's boyfriend when they were 14-16 years old. Anyway, I hope I haven't intruded and I really pray that your strength is boosted and that your pain fades rapidly.
