What if a stricture was dialated?

Interesting thought. But mine was so thick with scar tissue it couldn't even be dilated -- have to be cut out.

Might as well just have a strictureplasty done. You don't lose any guts and low incidence of recurrence.

i guess so it would kinda stiff up the bowel and avoid the bowel from re-stricturing or narrowing.
I mean if it's going to be cut out anyways...

and you wouldnt even need surgery.. just knock you out, bring in the baloon, dilate, and botox the ilium

What is your big idea?  I am curious and no don't work for the Canadian Medical Association...

I did read a few months ago about a case where instead of putting in a balloon to widen the area or totally remove the strictured part they put in a stent(think that was what it was called) like a permanent piece of plastic tube this meant that the area was left intact and any narrowed tissue wouldn't be able to close in further because the stent would prevent that(bit like an underground tunnel)

Botox? Hmmm...plastic surgery on the intestine. Well, not many people will get see it, but when your GI doc does a colonoscopy, you'll turn heads. Should make you popular with the medical staff.

I get strictures in my esophagus. When I can no longer swallow they go in with the same type of balloon used to open arteries and they strech the tight spots out. Dont know why they could not do this to a stricture in the gut, if they could reach it. By the way, it hurts like you know what for days after..
