Hi again...I introduced myself last week...in the middle of testing for IBD. But not close to being done yet. Colonoscopy is in 1 week. But I did stop by to pick up my CT report from my PCP since I had it sent there. (had not recieved results from GI doc yet, which I assumed was because he was waiting for all results to come in first. Have appointment to go over it all when the tests are all complete.)
Anyway...here is why Im confused and somewhat bewildered (but maybe there is no need to be...?) My report looks like a normal CT report. Under procedure it says " CT Abdomen and Pelvis with contrast incomplete" It doesn't say anything about a CT Enteroclysis/Enterography and makes no mention of details of the bowel except to say that the colon is "full of fluid consistent with history of diarrhea". Now I know that the doctor ordered a CT Enteroclysis (which I misunderstood and thought it was CT Enterography...but i checked today and the receptionist looked at the order and said it was a "CT Enteroclysis" that he wanted.) So I brought the report into my GI's office to show the assistant because the wrong ordering docs name was on the test. It was an internal medicine doc with the same last name as mine, but not my GI doc. So for starters the radiology place got the wrong doc's name on the report, which explains why my GI doc never recieved the report (which I confirmed with them when I was there...and btw, he wasn't in today which is why all the back and forth with the office staff.) So then I confirmed that he did indeed order a "CT Enteroclysis", but she and I were both confused over the lack of detail on the report...nothing really mentioned about small bowel etc... Just a rundown of organs (ie: Liver, spleen, pancreas etc....all normal except my liver which has multiple lesions all over it-which is a whole different issue...) At the end, under impression, it just relates the liver lesions and the colon being filled with fluid consistent with complaint of diarrhea.....which I kind of thought having the bowel prepped with fluid was the point...(the stuff I had to drink ahead of time.) I am really concerned that they either didn't prep me right or did the wrong test or the radiologist isn't familiar with how to read these tests (hence the lack of detail) The receptionist at my GI's office called over to ask the radiology department first to get the ordering docs name correct and to re-send report to them. THen asked them if they did the "CT Enteroclysis" as ordered. The receptionst there had to get a tech, and in turn the tech had to get a radiologist to finally get an answer, which they said "yes" that they did do the Enteroclysis CT even though it doesn't say that on the report. So the receptionist told me she would send an email to my doctor/with the report and that tomorrow he'd look it over, and they would get back to me about if this was even the test he was expecting. Later I went online to read about CT enteroclysis and it seems that a tube is put down the patient, which I didn't have done (thank goodness...would of freaked me out). So I asked the receptionist if the enteroclysis/enterography were the same thing and if they interchanged words. She said no they are different...so I told her I had no tube put down me, but she seemed content with the answer from the radiology clinic saying they did the test that was ordered. She advised me to be patient for the doc to have a chance to give his 2 cents. The prep was more like what you'd expect for a CT enterography....three big containers every 15 minutes, only they didn't scan me until 35-40 minutes after my last drink because of a difficult patient ahead of me. I was already having D and running to the bathroom with runny BM's by the time they scanned me....maybe it left the small bowel? Also the tech told me they don't really "do these kind of scan's that often" and had to "special make the drink" just for me. I tell you that left me feeling like I was wasting my time/money.
Any thoughts? Are the two tests one in the same. Would the report of what my doctor ordered "CT Enteroclysis" be so vague and look almost exactly like the regular CT report I had two years ago of my abdomen /pelvis.??
Thanks in advance.
