 Hi, I am Mia24 and i have just been diagnose with crohn's disease. I am the only one in  my whole family diagnose with it, and i have no friends who have an idea what crohn's disease, so i joined to get to know people who are like me and who can hopefully help me with my issues.

 I actually have an question for those who know, my doctor has just pescribe me stearoids to help control the flare ups or  something, and i was wondering if that was the best choice? Should i maybe go on something else?

Hello and Welcome, but I'm sorry you have to join our group. In answer to your question. Steroids are probably the quickest way to stop a flare and bring things under control fast, but they are not a good way to keep things that way because of the long term side effects. You should always be on some form of long term maintenance medication. Crohn's is a chronic incurable disease, but it isn't a death sentence. There are lots of medications out there and the trick is to find the right one (or ones) that work for you and stay on it to keep things manageable. Most people with CD lead long productive lives barely giving their CD a thought except to take their daily dose of med.

There are lots of helpful people here who are happy to answer any questions you have. But you can also find lots of answers at ccfa.org.

Welcome to the Forum Mia24! You iwll find lots of wonderful people who are very kind and willing to share their experinces. You are not alone in this disease.

I do want to point out that many on this forum have serious cases of Crohn's. Yet most people don't have all of these problems. Each person's disease is different. Don't automatically assume the worst for yourself!

Welcome... like others, I'm sorry you find yourself needing to be here. Like Zanne said, steroids are a fast way to get the disease under control. I would let your doctor figure out what's best. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right course of treatment for you, as everyone is different with this disease.

As difficult as it is to be diagnosed, I have found myself to grow and learn from having this disease. So, hang in there and good luck with your decisions along the way. Everyone here has support to offer and experience to share.

Welcome to healing well Mia24 here's a website that explains quite a few things about our disease that you'll find helpful. Let people here know specifics so they can offer advice. Like what steroid are you on and what are your symptoms?

Glad to have you here but so sorry you have been diagnosed with CD.  This is a place with a ton of information for you.  I love it because it gives me a place to start often, but I also remember that each person is different.  Yes, the steroids can potentially get you there the quickest, from what I understand.  I myself have not taken them, or any drugs, yet.  I'm working on my diet and with a Naturopath who has Crohn's.  That's my story, so far, with Crohn's.  I wish you the best!

Just wanted to add my welcome to the others. As Zanne stated steroids are one of the best way to quiet a flare down quickly, but you will also need a daily med to keep the disease under control. Both Zanne and myself have learned the hard way what happens when you have Crohns and do not take a maintainence med, and we both do not want you to experience the same. You should always treat your Crohns and should consider diet and medication as complimentary of eachother. We look forward to hearing more from you. Hugs!
