The waiting

I hate it, I still don't have my test results from my small bowel scan and it's been about 10 days.

Let me vent, when it comes to these tests it's a waiting game and it stresses me so much.  First you wait to see the doctor, then you wait to get your tests done, then you wait to find out about the results, if you need to go for surgery, then you wait to see the surgeon, then you wait for an appointed surgery time, I hate the waiting,  there is so much time to worry about things.   I feel for anyone else who has to go thru this as well.

 

You vent and I'll vent with you. I'm waiting on test results too. I swear the docs office has them, but they never call.
It's a big hospital, and when you try and call (for any reason) you get sent to voice mail, where they say your call is
so important to them, and they will return your call within 2 business days, yeah right. I've had it with all this waiting
that I'm thinking of changing GI's for that reason.

I was thinking of going to a smaller hospital. My only problem is, that right now I'm being
seen by a specialist. I don't know whether a regular gastro will accept me. Really though
sometimes the bigger the hospital, the more of a number we become...

I agree with the bigger hospital. I have been taking my son to a Specialist and everything is 3 weeks, to get a test wait 3 weeks, to get an apt 3 weeks. Everything is 3 weeks wait time. I was surprised when today she said she could see him on Monday!

Vent away. I agree with you. Crohn's disease (and presumably all other chronic diseases) seem to me to be one long waiting game. It's not just the waiting around for weeks for tests and appointments. It's the long wait for your new medication to kick in, or for your new medication to fail, or to see if an unsually good day turns into more good days or, conversely, if an unusually bad day heralds a worsening of symptoms. It's also the wait to see what effect the food you ate today will have.

It's enough to make you climb walls if you let it.

I also had to learn patience when taking my driving test this year - a six-week waiting time for driving tests does that to you. I passed on the 3rd try. During each waiting period I thought about the test as little as possible; as a tactic for reducing impatience it worked pretty well.

The Crohn's is worse, though, because, as much as I felt like I would never pass my driving test, there was an end in sight and it eventually arrived. A chronic disease is open-ended, with inbuilt uncertainty. It takes courage, I think, to look uncertainty squarely in the face and not let it rattle you.

Anyway, good luck with your test results when you do finally get them.

Some gastroenterologists specialize in crohns and others in other areas. I see two GI, one for my pancreatitis and
the other for crohns. Mind you, it's a double whammy when I have to pay two co-pays.

Interesting. I assumed that a GI takes care of all gastro problems. The GI that I have specializes in bowel problems, interesting though there may be a GI who is more knowledgeable for pancreatic and gall bladder issues etc.. makes good sense that some doctors would specialize in one condition more than another.. I just never gave it thought, so thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Vicky I see by your sig that you also have fibro, lupus and pancreatitis, whoa, wasn't CD enough? I feel for you, I have CD, & fibro and that hurts enough and here's me complaining about waiting. Take care.
