Can strictures or blockages fix themselves naturally? Or does surgery have to be performed?

I had an obstuction last year due to strictures and was hospitalised. The obstruction did shift (with some awful medication - all night in the loo !) but the strictures, caused by scaring, I believe will always be there. I have been told that I have strictures and active Crohns 'dotted' through the small bowel which means a resection is not an option for me . There is an operation called strictureplasty which may be an option if my next round of medication fails. I believe this proceedure makes the narrowing wider to allow waste through easier rather than taking the affected part out. Hope this helps

Generally if it is made of scar tissue no meds will help that. But if as missnuts says it is comprised of inflammation and some scar tissue then meds might help. Good luck!

Yes, they can resolve themselves, as long as they are not scar tissue. My daughter's stricture was so bad in 2006 that a doc mentioned surgery.
Imagine our surprise to see, in 2009, that it had vanished! Confirmed by SBFT and colonoscopy.
