Has anyone tried this product?

I was at my 6 month GI follow-up on Monday and we engaged in a long discussion about the fact that I am not on a maintenance med because I can't tolerate Mesalamine. He recommended a product called Isotonix OPC-3 as an anti-inflammatory. Does anyone use this? It is SUPER expensive but I did order a bottle (should arrive tomorrow via UPS). My GI said it's like an IV injection - and goes directly to the small intestine. Anyone? I was a little taken back by the fact that it is a Market America product - but if it works, I really don't care where it's coming from.

I would love to know how it goes as well. I looked up the product and it gets great reviews and makes sense, I keep reading how so many things that are anti-inflammatory from food sources and foods sources are best.

If my GI recommended I waste my money on something like Isotonix OPC-3, I would find another GI.

Hey Pink will look forward to hear your results. But I would also like to add get on the Vitamin D3. Many Crohnies as well as even healthy folks are being found to be low on this vitamin. I suffer with Fibromyalgia too and it has really helped in that department alot. Its also really good for your immune system. It helps you not to catch all the bugs. Good luck!

I used to know somebody who sold it. In my opinion it's a scam product. There is no evidence whatsoever that it helps with IBD.

Their basic premise is this: "Look how expensive it is! If it costs this much, it *must* be doing something." And some people believe that. That's what the woman I knew who was selling it tried to tell me. They even have fancy brochures with lots of psuedo-scientific information, ie, stuff that sounds impressive to a layperson, but is just a bunch of marketing speak to a real scientist. Again, there is no real data whatsoever that this product helps with any disease, and it's very expensive.

I stand by my statement that I would change my GI. But first I would question the current GI's reasons for recommending this product. Does he/she have a financial interest in it? If not, show me some data that it's a beneficial product.

beave: I hear you and trust me, I'm skeptical.....which is why I asked for input. I know nothing about the product other than what my GI told me and what I've found via online research. Some of the reviews are wonderful, some absolutely horrible. I can only trust at this point. The only way I'm going to know if it works FOR ME is to give it a try. Yup, it's outrageously expensive, and it's not like we're rolling in the dough, but I am willing to give it a try. If there's no improvement, I'm done with it.

There were no fancy brochures, no marketing materials at all involved in our conversation at my GI's office - he verbally gave me the main website, I ordered from there and was randomly assigned an online customer service rep in my area, who happens to be female. My GI is male. There is no monetary gain on his part that I am aware of. He informed me there were scientific studies conducted by Yale, but since I wasn't provided any material, I have no data to provide to you.

I may very well be back here tomorrow, a week or a month from now complaining that the product is nothing but an expensive scam or that it made me feel worse. Feel free at that point to say "I told you so".

In the meantime, my fingers are crossed. Took my first dose this morning. I'll keep you all posted!
