That sounded all too familiar. When I'm flaring, which is often, I can feel the digestion taking place in the area of inflammation. In the time that the food item is passing thru it I just moderate my breathing taking deep breathes and just bear the pain until the food item passes thru. I'm fairly used to this and it's become a daily ritual....
