Kidney stones linked to Remicade ???

I figured I'd start a new thread for this question:
Any of you out there taking Remicade experience kidney stones or kidney related issues??

It seems that I have one - its about 1cm - which I think is fairly big. had CT scan a few days ago.

The stones are very painful - lower back pain that almost knocked me off my feet and then some... well it did and it lasted all weekend a few weeks ago. I don't think I have passed it .... how long can a stone travel through your body??
I had one a year or two ago as well ... never had issues with kidney stones before... I am wondering if it is linked to the Remicade .... ???? Could it be the same stone from before?

From what I have read, there have not been reports of Remicade causing kidney stones.

Kidney stones ARE known as an extra-intestinal manifestation of Crohn's disease. Basically people with CD are prone to getting kidney stones. I had a long and painful bout with kidney stones early on in my disease. This was years before I took Remicade.

Kidney stones that are too large to enter the ureter can cause pain in the flank area of the back. Those stones now are often broken up using sound waves. If a kidney stone is small enough and happens to get into to ureter, it can cause intense pain and blood in the urine. That's what happened to me. The stones got in the ureter and got stuck. I recall falling to the floor in the worse pain of my life, clutching my back and projectile vomiting. The pain was far worse than giving birth naturally.

I would consult with a urologist to find out what he/she plans to do about your stone. I hope that the doc can find a way to relieve your pain.

poor you the pain with kidney stones is excrutiating :(

From what my GI says I think Ides is right and they are just a 'bonus' of crohns.

I had one completely block my right ureter earlier this year and it was not fun. Lasering to break them down works well with if they are too big to pass naturally. I also passed one naturally in labour with my second child - apparently the labour was a breeze it was passing the stone that had me writhing in agony <grin>.

Hope they can zap it for you and give you pain releif in the interim - good luck :)

thank you for the info so far. i will be sure to discuss it with my family doctor when i see him on the 8th. And yes, I hope I will find happyness & friendship very soon also ;o)

ok- i'm unfortunately the kidney stone pro...i've had 9 i think including a small one friday.  i stopped at the bank to drop off a check and felt "the pain" and kne exactly what it was...got home and peed and there it was- a small one this time...to answer your questions- if it was one cm i don't think you'd pass it- i think you mean mm...i've has them up to 4 mm's and that's about the limit...that's HUGE- looks like a rock when it passes- jagged and a bit shiny like silica...awfu;\l- looks like some torture device from long ago.

while kidney stones can be a part of crohn's i have not heard anything about them from remicade- which i am also on.  good luck and i really hope you dont get anymore!

I'm on my 3rd dose, no kidney issues ever and I've had cd for40years, now in jan. of this year I started immuran and within 3 weeks I had kidney pain's ands gi stopped immuran immediately.

Sorry but the stones go along with the IBD. Ask anyone who has been here awhile, I KNOW! ( Oh God I do, unfortunately). They used to call me the "Stone King" here. I think Sniper has the title now. I abdicated THAT throne!!

Matthew , its a title I really really do not want . I was up to two per month for a while but Alipurinal has helped so maybe its time to give the title to someone else. Anyway, I have passed enough of the little jewels to pave my drive, thats enough...Sofee, talk to your Urologist, find out what type of stones you are having and then alter your diet or start a med that will help you. You dont want this type of pearl forming all the time. Let us know what happens with your doc...

I find that keeping my urine acidic has stopped them in their tracks. And I like Lemonade anyway!
