I have been taking Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) for CFS/immune dysfunction. It has helped me gain my life back where nothing else has.

In my efforts to research this drug, I have come across a plethora of information on the internet about LDN and autoimmune disease. I wanted to pass this information on to community members who suffer from Crohn's.

THe NIH is doing a study on LDN and Crohns. There are 2 Clinical studies at Penn State for Crohns and LDN. LDN is particulary effective in the management of Crohns.

The drug Naltrexone is off patent and very cheap. If you are curious about LDN, I would encourage you to search LDN and Crohns on the internet.

We already have a few members using it.  And sorry, but it still is not a cure for Crohns.  No such thing at this time.

LDN is a med that works on controlling symptoms and Nanners is correct about not being a cure. All of your other 5 posts are about this med. In your other post you talked about it curing epstein bar. Do you have a connection to the medication or study? Sorry if you don't but it would not be the first time a drug company, product, or research team has come on here to drum up support for their product or research. There are some that are having some success with LDN but not all.

It was not me that posted about a "cure" for EBV- I may have said it can help, and according to the myriad of testimonials on the web about LDN and EBV, it does.  

As far as LDN being a cure for Crohns, let me say this: I don't pretent to know what it's like to have Crohns, and I it certainly was not my intention to make a flippant comment. Just from my own health struggles over the past several years, I know what its like to be treated that way. If I came across ruddely, I want to apologize. I purposely worded the title to my post to draw attention to LDN. Your comment was appropriate in that light.

It's not difficult to find out about LDN on the web. There are medline articles and studies coming out of U of Pennsylvania. A doctor there, Jill West, and a researcher by the name of Zagon are advocating for its use for Crohns specifically. Some other MDs, namely Dr Bihari, who is now deceased, and Dr Berkson out of New Mexico has had remarkable success with LDN. There is information on Youtube about LDN conferences, where MDs from around the world gather to share their experiences.

I also want to make sure that anyone who is reading this understands that LDN is off patent - this is the very reason why public knowledge of it is not part of the mainstream, if I can put it that way. LDN costs $30.oo/mo. No pharmaceutical company will promote its use - you must have a compounding pharmacy prepare it. These things I have mentioned are easily found on the web. I am just giving a very short Readers Digest version of the LDN story. As everyone knows who is part of these forums, we have to take our health into our own hands, it is up to people who have slipped through the cracks of mainstream medicine to find their own solutions.

Again, my intention today, when I joined the forum, was to pubicize what LDN can to for Crohns and for other autoimmune diseases, so that people who are suffering from them can explore it for themselves. Your forum, and forums like these are wonderful things. Believe me, if it cost me a dollar to sign up and post, I wouldn't have done so. Please read for yourselves what LDN is all about. It has helped me and many others.

Thanks for sharing, cbarrett! I'm always interested in LDN and other new treatments, as many of us are.

There are some people here who are trying LDN with success. I'd like to see more research on LDN and I've mentioned it to my GI in the past but he was too hesitant to try it with me.

The word "cure" gets a lot of people's guard up around here, partly because so many of us feel like we're at our rope's end and have tried "cures" before and yet weren't cured.

Sadly I dont think drug companies would like a cure no matter how much we would...a cure for us means no continuous profit for them...sad fact but true. trust me I wish like hell they would find a cure for this DD as well as the rest of them people suffer from

I heartily agree with Roni and dragonfly. Anybody who cant see the sad state of affairs in the way medicine is practiced in this country is either blind or in the medical profession. You are correct- "cure" was not the right word to use.

What harm would trying LDN bring? Its worth a shot, and there are a bunch of doctors who will prescribe it: Thomas Cowan in San Fransisco is one, Jacqueline McCandless is another. You call them up, have a quick chat, pay their fee, and off you go. Youo can even buy it yourself in 50mg tabs and "dilute it" to the correct dosage yourself. The very specific instructions for this can be found on the net.

The bottom line is this: If I did have Crohns or any other auto immune disease, and wasn't feeling that i was getting the most out of my treatments, I would try it. If it didn't work, it didn't work, but I wouldn't be the worse off for it.

I find it annoying when people make broadbase generalizations, with no or very few caveats.

"Cure" is definitely the wrong word to use. "Effective treatment" may not sound as good, but for most of us, that's all we really hope for.
