need some advice.  I have been having constipation alot and also have a rectal prolapse so straining is NOT good for me.  Can miralax be used every day without hurting your colon?  Stool softeners seem to give me gas and gets me bloated?  How long does it it to work?  Right away???  prof

Before my surgeries I was on Miralax when it was still Rx only.  It did help me to at least go once a day instead of the once every 3 or 4 days I had gotten accustumed to at that time.  I forget how long it took to take effect though

My gastro and I were talking about Miralax just a couple of days ago, and he said he feels it's safe to take every day.

It usually works within a day or two, but sometimes it can take several days.

Thanks.. once it begins to work...  and you use it everyday... do you have to "go' right away?  Would I need to be home after i took it?

For me it didn't cause any urgency at all. It's just that when I did need to go, it was much easier to do so.

I've been using Miralax ever since I was diagnosed with Crohn's 2 years ago. I'm still working on getting my dosage right. I still get gas and bloating and pain. My doctor says it's the safest stool softener out there, and the problems I'm experiencing is because I have a chronic constipation problem. She told me to just keep up with the Miralax and take gas-X and tramadol for the unfortunately side effects.
