My abdominal fistula (not a lot of drainage- a bandaid suffices for a day or two), which I have had for 15 months now, has seemed to heal over the last week. It was a found after drainage of abscess at 8 months pregnant. The wound was left open with VAC and then wet to dry gauze-- shrunk to about half centimeter or smaller. I have been almost asymptomatic this year aside from a week in December and a day or two every other month. I just finished breastfeeding a few weeks ago-- could hormones change things?
I'm concerned about a abscess forming underneath and have actually tried to open it but it just scabbed over! Could the fistula actually heal on it's own? My surgeon said it's a 10% chance with crohn's... so I'm wondering if anyone has had this experience?
Thanks, Lyova
