Hi Everyone,

I'm new here, but not new to Crohn's. I am 32, but was diagnosed when I was 11. I'm currently flaring and trying to stay positive. My biggest concern is the lack of concern by my doctors--I generally feel minimized and overlooked. I've yet to find a doctor in my area that does not make me feel this way.

Despite having this disease, I've got a really great life, and generally feel a sense of gratitude and peace most of the time. I have three children, a wonderful husband, and I'm finishing up my PhD in psychology. My struggles are with feeling really tired most of the time lately, and dealing with pain.

It's nice to "meet" you all, even though our collective circumstances kind of suck.

Jen, welcome to the forum!  I'm sure you'll find a lot of great advice and support here.  It's great that you have still be able to finish up your Ph.D.  I've been thinking about working on my masters, but just don't think I can physically handle that in addition to working full-time and working on fixing up a foreclosure we bought recently.  Hopefully, I will be able to go back sometime, though.  But, welcome and congrats on being a Dr. soon!

Hi Jen just wanted to add my welcome to Healingwell. You will find alot of supportive folks trying to live with this darn disease. I too have had a pretty good life, despite having this stupid disease. Just wanted to welcome you to our little family. Look forward to hearing more from you. Hugs!

Zena--I bet you will be able to handle graduate work, eventually! Go for it...it actually goes by pretty quickly! And maybe you can find a program that you can do from a distance or online :)

Welcome, Jen, and congratulations on your almost PhD. That's a mighty accomplishment, especially when you have fatigue.

It's lovely that you have such a fulfilling home and family life, though disappointing about your doctors. If you feel comfortable telling us (vaguely) where you live, someone here might know of a doctor with better bedside manner.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

I'm in the Tampa Bay area. Pinellas county, specifically. Thanks for prompting that, it didn't occur to me to share it! lol!

Try ratemds.com for some doctors.

Congrats on the almost PhD! Out of curiosity, are you doing clinical or experimental psych?

Experimental psych...hoping to land a faculty position for the 2011 school year.

Thanks for the link! I searched my current GI, and found another patient who had this to say: "I asked nurse to have this doctor call me to discus results of my colonoscopy and was told he probably wouldn't call me back. I will not go this doctor again for treatment or consultation."

That's how he behaves with me, too! He didn't even want to run a cbc on me. I need to find another GI, it just seems like so many of them act this way. Blah.
