Somebody from the hospital phoned up just 10 minutes ago and said I had a MRI scan for Monday. My first gobsmacked thought was to say, no, I don't want it, cancel it. My second gobsmacked thought was to think oh what the hell, go along with it, cancel afterwards if you want to.

So now I have an appointment for an MRI scan on the 25th October, 3pm :-/

Well I would go forward with the test. I think this might be a good test to figure out what is really going on with your guts. Hopefully this provides some answers for you and the right treatment is found to get you feeling better. Hugs!

its an easy one to do at least! although drinking the contrast isn't the most fun thing to do ever. One thing i will say for your hospital, they get you in quick for MRI's. i had to wait over 3 months for mine to finally come through. Which then clashed with holidays so it took over 5 months to get a report back, still better than last time which was 9 months!

Nanners - You are right. It seems a little silly to turn down an opportunity to see what's happening inside. So... I have a test but no follow-up appointment with a doctor! I feel really stupid about it now, but I suppose I ought to phone up and see if I can make an appointment :/

Choc - Yeah, that's a big difference in waiting times, I have to say. Did you ask for a report or do they send one automatically?

No i didn't really get a report. My GI wrote me a letter cos we based my surgery decision on the MRI result. He summerised alot! I didnt even see my GI after my MRI he referred me straight to the surgeon once i confirmed with his secretary that i was ok with that.

Maybe ask your GP if he can request a copy of the report? You seem to like him, so maybe that could be easier? He may not be able to explain everything but you should get a fair idea.

I'd go for it too. It isn't very invasive like colonoscopies etc....... I didn't realize you have to drink contrast media for an MRI. I kind of wish they had done one on me. I've had MRI's for my back and neck years ago. Unless you are claustrophobic, it's an easy test.

@choc - Ah okay. In that case I hope that somebody will give me a bit of info straight after the MRI, as they usually do after a colonoscopy eg "There's some minor inflammation" or "your innards are well and truly knackered", etc.

@jeannac - I don't know that I do. The girl on the phone said that I would have to drink a laxative and wait for about an hour and a half before I could have the scan, but she didn't say anything about contrast. I am a bit claustrophobic, but I'll deal with it... She did say I could play music, so I suppose by that she means I can take in an mp3 player. EDIT: @greyeyed blonde - I'll bear that in mind :p

I haven't made an appointment yet. My mum persuaded me it could wait two days until Monday... :-/

I think this is really good news, NCOT. As someone else said, at least it gives you a chance to find out what's going on inside you without having to do a scope.

Make sure you take a walkman or iPod or something to listen to while you drink, too, and a book (or similar).

Please do make a follow-up appoitnment!

You know NCOT I have also heard that this is a great test for seeing what Crohns is doing inside, without the hose stuck up your butt:) LOL

But seriously heard it is an excellent tool for Crohns. I am hoping and praying that this provides you much needed answers that help to get you feeling well soon. I always feel so bad reading your posts and knowing you are feeling so bad. I remember those days and they aren't fun. Hugs!

After my last colonoscopy, I can certainly do without another one for a very, very long time!

Thank you kindly, Nanners. *hugs back* :p

But please don't feel too bad; sometimes I think I just complain too much and that others are suffering much worse than I am... :/

By the way, I meant to ask yesterday but forgot: does the MRI view your colon as well, or is it just the small intestines? Thanks to whoever answers :p

Have to agree with e1, best to get the mri done.

Hope they figure things out and you get better.
