What to use for pain...

I don't have pain anymore but I remember days where I would go through massive amounts of acetaminophen and NSAIDs...but those are hard on me NSAIDs are a no no and APAP gives me cramps in my right side (even at low doses)...when I broke my wrist I had straight oxycodone and that made my bowels feel immensely better but if you so much as mention it I find my doctors eyes shrink and ask "Do you REALLY need that kind of pain relief?!!" as if I'm going to sell it or abuse it...is there any other options? Not an issue now I'm just curious...

I actually was using oxydrops for a while (since my surgeries they cannot give me oxycontin since it doesnt stay in me long enough...literally comes out still with the lettering on it legible) then they were backordered on that for like 3 months so I had to switch and use oxycodone (basically the percoset minus the tylenol in it)

A lot of doctors are leery (for an assortment of reasons/issues) of giving out pain medications...so you might have better luck with a "pain specialist"...these docs will go though the necessary paperwork, and find the best med to suit you...don't be ashamed that you need relief...in whatever form...

I see a PM doctor, and have my pain under control...and even have meds for "the end of need"(a LOTR reference)...which means I don't use them unless nothing else is working...

Both my parents see a pain management specialist (actually we know a few anesthesiologists personally so they offer in site as well) for severe nerve pain so they understand my pain when it's around. I think I might talk to my doctor about this though. Currently in remission but if and when it comes back full throttle I'm not planning on screwing around with the pain...I always used to think I might have been overeacting about the pain but sometimes it was really bad (felt like intestines were chafeing, lol idk if that's possible but it felt horrid). I think allot of doctors hesitate with me because I'm a highschooler, my original pediatrician didn't care but as soon as I starting seeing internists and GIs they seriously acted like I was asking "can I have opioids so I can abuse them and get you in trouble for malpractice?"..and it wasn't just for crohns either...idk if some of you older folks have had this experience....

My primary care doc has given me a few hydrocap/APAP. She only gives me a few at a time and no refills. Hell, we can't take NSAIDS, which are great for pain, so what else do they expect us to do? I know they don't want to make junkies out of us but they can look up our record of prescriptions and see what we are using and how much. You can't leave people in pain. In my town, the only PM doctor has been accused of getting people hooked by giving them too many pills. I don't know the answer. I am just lucky I don't need pain relief all that often. Sometimes imodium works for me. I try that first even if I am not having diarrhea.

Well thanks I'm not alone. Me and my parents have gotten our fair share of dirty looks from pharmacists too, one said to my dad in a nasty voice "that's allot of hydrocodone..." after his 3rd back surgery and getting off a morphine pump on his birthday...I'm not trying to say all doctors should mindlessly write scripts but I've been in serious pain before and had ER doctors ignore me (I hate the ER so much..) then finally ask "are you in pain? Can I get you some Tylenol?" yeah because I waited here for 4 hours only to be asked by some fresh out of college PA if I'm in pain while some GI sits with his thumb up his rear end (no pun intended :p). I'm just glad I haven't had any serious pain recently because arm restling with doctors is no fun.
