Hello everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update on my situation from this past week of very bad pains.  I saw my dr. on thursday and he put me on prednisone for the next 8 weeks.  I've had crohn's for 8 yr now and am experiencing a flare up.  I was on entocort which hasn't really worked for me.

My first dose of pred. was yesterday and my pains would still come like a contractions every half or an hour apart.  Today I had breakfast and ensure for lunch because i'm afraid of pains. 

Does anyone know how long it takes for prednisone to work?  Once it does start to work do I need to remain on a diet?

Thanks for any advice.

My Pred started working within a week- best of luck to you Sky.

Pred works fairly quickly for me, usually within a couple of days I stop having pains and my D starts to mellow out.

I've found that once the pred kicks in, I am so hungry that I will eat anything. I try to keep it pretty soft and bland for 5-7 days because I know there is some healing going on in there, but after that, I can eat whatever I feel like with very few repercussions.

Thank you for the reply. I am starting to feel better as well, the pains are getting less and less. I'm also careful what I eat. I rather hold of on all the goodies now, than at christmas. Just wandering, what happens after I get off the prednison. Right now, I'm taking pentasa and prednisone. I had been informed of remicade and humira but I'm scared to take them. I also want to get pregnant again so I'm thinking of what impact those meds have on pregnancy.
Is there anyone who was able to come of prednisone and not taking any other meds, other than pentasa without any further flare up?
