Hi All,

I'm from the UC forum, but I can tell we all take the same meds and have the same symptoms most of the time.

I always suspected bacterial overgrowth for the cause of my UC. How do I get checked for it and what was the protocol for treatment?

I have never done any kind of tests for mine, my doc just based it on my symptoms. Which were gassy, bloated and some stomach pain especially after eating. There is a breath test they can do too.

My treatment was a 10 day course of Cipro, within a few days I started feeling MUCH better. Hope that helps some.

There is a breath test. You have to fill this little bag up about every half hour or so, for about 3 hours.

For Cdiff it is a stool sample ... several over several days. I finally did it and they found it and treated with I think Cipro or Flagly or both ... othertimes I it was just suspected. I highly recommend you do the stool sample otherwise you may be just interjecting antibiotics into your system.

I just started a probiotic regime with the same strain but a less expensive alternative to VSL #3 ... I know there are a few options out there ... feeling really good ... good luck!
