This will be very quick as I am not able to sit. Had my pelvic organ reconstruction surgery on Tuesday. What I recall of the surgery went well - I had a spinal but the versed made me loopy so recall little.
In the recovery unit things began to go south. Personnel were trying to turn me and I began having the worse pain of my life. They saw extensive bruising on my buttocks. My blood pressure plummeted. After 5.5 hrs in recovery they took me to the ICU step-down. My BP kept getting lower and then consecutive hemoglobin and hematocrits kept falling. I was taken for an emergency CT scan while the type and cross match was done. At that point my hematocrit had gone from 39 to 13, and my hemoglobin from 12 to 3. My BP was 68/23. I known I kept asking for updates of my Hgb/Hct. They told me my mental status was remarkably coherent for my poor physical state. I admit to getting very nervous when they were explaining to my daughter that they were going to call for the RST. RST is the response group when they feel someone is bordering on coding.
CT showed the bleeding had stopped and that there were two large hematomae in my peritoneum. I have extensive bruising covering my entire buttock and inner thighs. It is impossible to sit because of the pain.
I feel very, very thankful to have come out of this alive. When able, I will dictate more to my trusty helper.
